Product Traceability in the EAEU and New Marketplace Compliance
The product traceability mechanism become mandatory on September 1, 2026, across the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This permanent system introduces strict, comprehensive monitoring of imported goods within the single market.
Within the EAEU market, traceability means purely documentary (digital) control over the movement of imported cargo batches. It operates on a completely different principle than product marking:
- No physical indicators or barcodes are required on individual products or their retail packaging.
- Each imported batch is assigned a unique Registration Number of the Batch of Goods (RNPT), which is automatically generated based on customs declaration records.
- Government authorities track the movement of the entire batch as a single unit using electronic documents, from the point of customs clearance down to the final sale or disposal.
📊 The Unified EAEU Register
A common list of controlled products has been approved at the supranational level. According to Decision of the EEC Council No. 5 dated January 26, 2026 "On the List of Goods Imported into the Customs Territory of the EAEU Subject to Traceability", the mandatory digital tracking mechanism applies to three primary household appliance and electronics groups:
- 🧊 Household refrigerators and freezers.
- 🧺 Washing machines (covering both domestic units and commercial laundry models).
- 📺 Televisions, monitors, and television reception apparatus.
For local EAEU importers, dealing with any mandatory products means that every product transfer must be registered through digital Electronic Document Management (EDM) using the assigned RNPT. If products from the Unified List are transported between EAEU member countries, all relevant information must be transmitted via the interstate data exchange system.
📌 National Traceability Registries
In addition to the general EAEU criteria, each member state maintains its own autonomous national traceability register. National authorities use these internal digital systems to regulate business activities within their respective territories.
As a result, the scope of goods monitored within a specific country is often broader than the baseline list established under the EAEU framework. These national lists are internal, dynamically updated, and managed by each EAEU country independently to monitor products moving within its domestic market. Member states retain the full right to add any other imported commodities to their national lists if they deem strict regulatory control necessary.
🛍️ New Marketplace Compliance: Mandatory Registry Links
Coinciding with the traceability launch, starting September 1, 2026, new consumer protection regulations became active for e-commerce platforms and marketplaces across the region.
- Mandatory Registry Links: When selling products online via digital platforms (such as Ozon, Wildberries, Yandex Market, etc.), merchants and platforms are legally obligated to provide an active, direct hyperlink to the official certificate or declaration record within the product card.
- No more scanned copies: Simply uploading a PDF scan or an image of a certificate into the product gallery is no longer sufficient. The compliance document must actively exist in the unified EAEU registry or national registries.
- Automated Auditing: Marketplaces are dynamically integrating their backends with state compliance databases via API to automatically cross-verify that incoming product listings correspond to legitimate, active safety documentation.

- The Agreement on the Mechanism for Traceability of Goods Imported into the Customs Territory of the Eurasian Economic Union dated May 29, 2019 (establishes the core legal foundation).
- Decision of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council No. 5 dated September 30, 2025(approved the transition from the pilot phase to a permanent, mandatory system).
- Decision of the EEC Council No. 5 dated January 26, 2026 "On the List of Goods Imported into the Customs Territory of the EAEU Subject to Traceability" (legally establishes and approves the unified product scope for the traceability mechanism).
- Decision of the EEC Council No. 68 dated May 20, 2026 (implemented unified digital rules for information exchange among member states, making the permanent mechanism fully operational from September 1, 2026).
